Looking backward and forward

So I posted a picture on my Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/feydtoblack not usually safe for kids and sometimes not work either, just to let you know) and on my Facebook of my title from my high school in Las Vegas. As a high school student and teenager in general, I was a very different person.

I had not developed into someone who was gracious or generous. While I was always responsible, I was far too irresponsible with my friendships and romances. But hey, that is the folly of youth right?

Fast forward a few decades and I have learned that it truly is better to give than receive. And Angie, where ever you are, I hope you are happy and found someone who treats you better than I did (which shouldn’t have been difficult because I was criminally terrible).

Shifting gears from the nostalgia a bit, we had a nice deep clean today. It feels good and productive getting everyone together and each person has their tasks to accomplish. This place needed a good scrubbing, so thats what Jrob and I took care of.

Got some fans dusted and new lightbulbs installed and managed to not fall off the ladder! Way to go Chris!

We even moved the booths and cleaned beneath them too! it was a nice and glorious day. Also, to prove she was here getting dirty with us, I managed to get a picture of Marsha in her cleaning gear! Don’t tell her its here otherwise she will make me take it down.

Some people in the restaurant business have told me that I talk too much about the “behind the curtain” stuff (like cleaning parties with pics, food costs, taxes and general real world issues with owning and running a restaurant) and I like to say that you all like knowing about that stuff. While we may not all be the best of friends, you still trust us to feed you and sauce you up.

I do not take your trust for granted, nor does anyone I employ. We are here to provide you a service, not an illusion. I love being wide open and honest with y’all because at the end of the day, if it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t be here. We take pride in our service, products and establishment.

Other fun things tend to happen too, and I would be remiss if I didn’t share some of the perks of the business. Free booze. Yeah, thats about it, but wowzer, what a perk. Tini and I went to a champagne and prosecco tasting at Automatic that was sponsored by one of our wine and beer distributors (Alabama Crown).

I know it doesn’t look like much, but when you are drinking all the bubbles, not spitting them out, it becomes a bit… intoxicating. We tried everything from $4 cans to $100 bottles (cost). It was perfectly eye opening before it was definitely time to get some Mexican food. Hopefully we will have some new stuff in the bar for you to try soon.

Super excited too because next week I get to go make brittle with Bronnie. You might have seen her brittle for sale by our register. It is made here in Irondale, and I am super stoked to get to see it made and maybe help too. There will be videos of this and me being hopeless with creating anything moderately edible should be up with next week’s blog post.

Sorry this weeks post was so late, Tini and I also went to Tuscaloosa yesterday and took a training class to be instructors of a program called P.A.S.T. (https://pastresponsiblevendor.com/). That way she and I can educate and examine both bars and make sure that we are ABC responsible vendor compliant. Just trying to make sure we take care of you all as best we can.

Final night of trivia of this season is Sunday. 15 questions and I hope it’s going to be super busy. So make sure you get here early and claim your spot.

Thats it for this week. I am super tired and it is now nap time. As always, I wish you all the absolute best. See you soon.

Ever your servant,

Berkley
